We know that it can be difficult to figure out which new vehicle is going to be the best fit for you. That's why we're going to compare the new Subaru Outback to the Ford Explorer, giving you a side by side look at some of the many reasons why the new Outback is the optimal fit for you!

Subaru Outback vs. Ford Explorer

  • When looking for the right vehicle, price should always play an important role, and the new Outback is far less expensive than the Explorer is at base price. The Outback starts at just over $26,300 while the Explorer starts at just over $32,000, allowing you to save nearly $6,000 or upgrade to a higher Outback trim level for a similar price to the base model Explorer.
  • Whether you're driving around the streets of Albuquerque, NM or plan on getting out of town and exploring some off road terrain on your next adventure, the new Outback lets you do it all with standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive on every model, providing you with greater traction, handling and control on any surface and terrain. The Explorer, however, comes equipped with standard front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive equipped models will cost more.
  • Every new Outback model comes with a Starlink multimedia system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, providing you with seamless connectivity and hands-free control of your mobile device on the go. The Explorer also offers a standard infotainment system, but it doesn't come with standard Apple CarPlay or Android Auto.
  • The Explorer comes with a more powerful standard engine than the Outback does, but that allows the Outback to achieve a higher estimated fuel economy than the Explorer, offering up to 25 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway compared to up to 17 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway from the Explorer.
  • All Outback models now come with a standard Eyesight Driver Assist Technology system, offering adaptive cruise control, pre-collision braking, lane keep assist, and more. The Explorer, while it does offer many similar safety features as the Outback, doesn't offer them standard and you'll instead have to upgrade to a higher and more expensive trim level.
  • The Outback comes with standard raised roof rails with integrated crossbars, making it easy to equip your preferred roof rack and bring more equipment on the road with you. The Explorer, on the other hand, doesn't come with raised roof rails and integrated crossbars.
